The betting website allhorseracing.ag earlier this week opened its Kentucky Derby future book, to my knowledge making them the first in the world to offer betting on the 2015 Run for the Roses.
The shortest price listed is 125-1. That’s for three horses: Saratoga’s Sanford winner Big Trouble, Sanford’s narrow runner-up Mr. Z and Cozmic One.
Cozmic One is the unraced first foal out of the great Zenyatta.
Also on the list, at 200-1 is Jess’s Dream, the first foal of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and sired by 2007-’08 Horse of the Year Curlin, both campaigned by the late wine magnate Jess Jackson, who raced in the name of Stonestreet Stables. Jess’s Dream shows six published workouts at the Stonestreet Training and Rehabilitation Center in Ocala, which Jackson’s widow, Barbara Banke, purchased from Vinery in December, 2012.
Cozmic One has yet to show a recorded workout. That’s not exactly surprising given how the massive Zenyatta did not run until very late in her 3-year-old season, with ever-patient trainer John Shirreffs and owner Jerry Moss.
